Child Therapy

When things don't go as planned

When we began our family, we had no idea that the journey might take an unexpected turn. But, often it does, even with the best of parents. Children can develop problems due to their circumstances, predisposition, temperament, or other factors. Perfect parenting does not guarantee perfect children. So much is beyond our control. But getting help for our child is not.

We work with children who present with many different mental health issues, including:

  • ADHD

  • Autism spectrum disorder

  • Bipolar disorder

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Oppositional defiant disorder

  • Sensory processing disorder

  • Reactive attachment disorder

  • Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder

  • Conduct disorder

We can help with situational problems such as:

  • Divorce

  • Grief

  • Emotional issues related to long-term physical illness

  • Reaction to family situations.

  • Abuse

  • Adoption-related issues

Many child clients also have psychiatrists or other professionals working with them. They may have I.E.P.s or 504 Plans to provide them with the supports they need in the classroom setting.  With the permission of parents, we work closely with these other professionals.

When working with children, we expect at least one parent to be actively involved in the child's therapy by periodically meeting with the therapist.
